Summary: | Virtual reality systems are one of the most exciting technologies in the horizon today.
This project builds upon the common understanding of virtual reality but takes a
more artistic approach by utilizing real video footage instead of the usual 3D
computer graphics created by 3D engines.
The aim of this project is to create an immersive environment on mobile devices by
using Stereoscopic 360o videos. This will be achieved by completing the following
objectives.
i) Researching on current software and evaluating the performance of
Stereoscopic 360o video on various virtual reality devices.
ii) Creation of Android App which plays Stereoscopic 360o videos with the
virtual reality device.
iii) Implementation of spatial 3D audio and more interactions for a more
immersive environment.
This report documents the experimental results, the considerations when creating the
App and environment, as well as the steps in implementing Stereoscopic 360o videos
and spatial 3D audio in Unity 3D to develop the immersive environment. The report
also contains some problems faced during the developments, and the methods used to
overcome them. |
