The role of leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein 1 (LRG1) in colorectal cancer cells

In colorectal cancer (CRC), plasma levels of LRG1 is observed to be increased in female patients before their diagnosis of CRC. In addition, LRG1 is reported to positively correlate colonic adenoma in a rodent model of CRC. More recently, LRG1 was reported to be able to modulate epithelial-mesenchym...

In addition, LRG1 is reported to positively correlate colonic adenoma in a rodent model of CRC. More recently, LRG1 was reported to be able to modulate epithelial-mesenchymal transition of some CRC cell lines. Attempts to elucidate how LRG1 modulates TGF-β signalling, proliferation rate and cell cycle in HCT-15 and HT-29 CRC cell lines were made via western blot, LRG1 overexpression and MTS proliferation assays. Preliminary data hints that LRG1 upregulates TGF-β signaling molecules promote proliferation of HCT-15 and HT-29 CRC cells lines. This presents LRG1 a potential cancer drug target in the context of CRC.
