Summary: | The Nipah Virus (NiV) is an emerging infectious virus that has caused outbreaks since 1998. It is a dangerous zoonotic virus with a 40-75% case fatality rate and the route of transmission is skewed towards human-to-human transmission in recent year. With no treatment available and only one vaccine that is licensed for horses, this necessitates the new treatments and vaccine urgently. Classified as a BSL4 virus, the research that can be done on it will hampers the development of new therapeutics. In this study we managed to culture and isolation Nipah virus-like particles in a BSL2 laboratory. This Nipah VLPs has the viral glycoproteins as an authentic virus but without any genetic material and is a potential vaccine. |
