Description
Summary:This essay aims to fill this scholarship vacuum in the analysis of Tamil songs and how they perpetuate and reinforce male chauvinistic attitudes towards women in real life by analysing certain features of selected love failure songs across the period of the 1950s to 2016. I will begin by illuminating the role of women in Indian society and exploring the tension between the reality and the expectations of Tamil women in Tamil culture. Additionally, this paper will argue that Tamil love failure songs, also known as soup songs, perpetuate violence towards women by normalising sexual assault and violence upon women.
