Also, the 2010 and 2015 Census by Statistics Singapore have shown a correlation between English as home language and educational attainment. With English being the lingua franca and main medium of instruction in education in Singapore, I explore whether English as home language is a significant factor in affecting one’s educational attainment. I then ask how this compares to other factors in influencing one’s educational attainment. The results of this study, showed that home language as English did not come up as a prominent factor, while parental influence and expectations played a more significant role.
