Summary: | With more women entering the workforce each year, the role and importance of a father as a provider has been debated. Using a qualitative approach, this paper aims to add to the growing literature of contemporary fatherhood by analysing how class affects fathering. Drawing data from in-depth interviews with lower and middle class fathers, this paper will analyse the differences that class plays in the perception, level of involvement, and parenting styles of a father. This research will indicate that middle class fathers are more involved in their children’s lives in different ways and their involvement would lead to a perpetuation of social inequality through their children. |
