Summary: | Water is important to maintain our life and up to 65% of human adult body is water. Everyday human need certain amount of water to keep body function properly. With its many uses for drinking, washing, cooking and irrigation, water is our most precious resources. Access to high quality standard of water is essential for our healthy. Raw water has been treated with many strictly processes and delivered safely to consumers through pipes. If the water is contaminated by disease-causing organisms, waterborne diseases like diarrhea and typhoid may break out which may cause seriously injuries.
Waterborne diseases are caused by recreational or drinking water polluted by disease-causing microbes or pathogens. While Singapore has established a robust sampling and monitoring programme to prevent waterborne outbreaks, waterborne diseases are still a potential threat to the public. The World Health Organization has reported about 1.5 million humans lost their life due to drinking contaminate water every year. So, prevention system is important to make sure water supply is safe and hygiene.
An Early Stage Warning (EST) real time system for rapid detection of cryptosporidium parvum oocysts and giardia lamblia cysts in treated water was created in NTU lab. The purpose of this device is to automatically detect the waterborne microorganism more efficiently than the traditional method created by USA. |
