As a result of its great success and achievements in carrying out its desired functions, the concept of implementing the UAV in the commercial sector has begun to surface over the recent years with the help of technology. An innovative idea to use the UAV to deliver lightweight goods from one point to another seems to be a brilliant and feasible plan that can be implemented in the near future. This is due to the fact that the UAV is well suited in size and can be easily programmable by the user on the route to take. In this report, a brief history and background of the UAV is introduced followed by discussion on how the UAV plays an important role in military warfare. Next, a fundamental study on the various sections and components used in the design of the UAV as well as its working principle is done in order to better understand the basic operations of the UAV. Lastly, a comparison between the military UAV and the currently available commercial UAV is made in terms of design modifications and capability. For this project, a UAV prototype will be built for the purpose of goods delivery where GPS navigation is being implemented into the system. Once the UAV prototype is successfully designed and installed, data will be collected in the outdoor environment. Finally, observations and outcomes from the experimental results are consolidated and discussed followed by the conclusion of the report. A project demonstration of the UAV prototype designed and oral presentation will conclude the entire project. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, also known as the UAV, was first designed and used in military warfare for the purpose of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance since its invention a few decades ago.
