Description
Summary:This report gives a summary of the creation of a vision based navigation robot. The project focuses on the use of a cost effective Raspberry Pi board and various sensors to carry out autonomous navigation using computer vision. The aim was to create an affordable and practical home use robot for elderly care. The camera module and Passive Infrared sensor (PIR) were used to for the robot’s application functions. To provide accurate autonomous path navigation, compter vision techniques, such as the blob detection, were implemented to identify the possible path for the robot. This will allow the robot to maneuver around within the house premises without damaging itself. Various functions from the OpenCV library were also used to complete the navigation system. Other application using the sensors will also be dicussed. An example of such application was to trigger robot to activate a live recording of its surrounding whenever a human motion is detected. This feature will aid in the supervision of the elderly’s well-being in the house. The report ends off with a conclusion of this project and recommendation for future improvements.
