Summary: | The purpose of this final year project seeks to maximize the potential of human and food waste as a source of renewable biogas energy. In the first phase, the author aims to help 3rd world countries by designing a portable toilet that not only provides basic sanitary needs, but also convert human waste into energy and fertilizer for the land. Agendas covered includes, biogas and its nature, current efforts in using biogas produced by human waste and the disadvantages and advantages of utilizing human waste to produce biogas.
To conceptualize and materialize this project, materials and components to construct the biogas system will be bought off-the-shelf from those available in the market. Ideally, a design that fits the requirements and compatibility of villages in 3rd world countries will be made. Further research will be made to identify the needs and concerns of villages in 3rd world Countries, specifically, Myanmar, and how the implemented biogas system improves their living condition and lifestyle.
In the second phase, the author redirects his focus from utilizing human waste to food waste as the source of biogas production. At the same time, looking at Singapore as a case study of food wastages in a developed country and the efforts that are currently in place to handle and tackle this situation. Moreover, the author also proposes his idea in helping to tackle the issue of food wastage in his country. |
