Description
Summary:Presently, increasing productivity is essential in Singapore due to Singapore’s aging population and decrease of unskilled labour workers. Hence, the use of technology will facilitate in increasing productivity in the construction industry. One promising technology which can aid in improving productivity is the RFID technology, but it is not typically seen in the industry. The objective of this project is to analyse the feasibility in using RFID system for the construction processes and discuss if the utilization of RFID can improve the overall construction processes. A prototype is developed to show the feasibility of using the technology. The focus of the prototype is to show the feasibility of implementing RFID in the logistics management of precast concrete components. The benefits reaping from using the RFID is then discussed and is concluded that using RFID is not only beneficial to materials management but also for other construction processes such as during crane operation and overall project scheduling.
