Description
Summary:“Liddat oso Can”, or in Standard English, “Like that also can”, is a commonly used Singlish phrase to express either sarcasm, scepticism or a tinge of awe in response to almost impossible or unexpected feats of achievement or actions (Yoong, Standard English and Singlish: The Clash of Language Values in Contemporary Singapore, 2010). The choice of title for my project reflects how Singlish is a big part of growing up in Singapore as well as the phrase being a fitting way to describe responses from the surprises in life faced by the protagonist in my narrative illustration book. The main themes covered in my project fall under the umbrella of unspoken rules that the youth face while growing up in Singapore, portraying them in a light-hearted point of view, which will be covered in detail in this report. This report will summarise the process and development of this project from the ideation to post-production.
