Summary: | Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) encourages any improvement that can be fulfilled in the field of construction productivity. There are several incentive technologies which are introduced or encouraged by BCA to speed up the construction, where higher productivity gains can be achieved. Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology and Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) method are the examples which were recommended by the authority as the potential scheme in increasing construction rate. However, the performance of association between BIM and PPVC technologies has yet to be identified. BIM-based PPVC developments are considered as new paraphernalia in extend of building efficiency in Singapore, more researches and studies are required to evaluate the accomplishment and potential of combination from both technologies. The proposed study in this paper focused on the influence of BIM on the manufacture and assembly stage of PPVC project. An existing PPVC project will be adopted as a case study to assess the different stages across the PPVC process. An optimized BIM-based automation planning and scheduling for PPVC project is introduced to tackle the efficiency and potential of collaboration between these two technologies. Results have shown that it is possible to automatically generate the schedule for the PPVC construction by extracting the rich information provided by BIM model, which is then integrated with work package information, process simulation scripts and optimization approach. |
