Summary: | Mass customisation is becoming a recent trend for companies to achieve both product variety and reduced product lead-time. The identification of a sustainable product architecture for a product family is important to meet these needs. As additive manufacturing methods matures, it is also deployed in the function of customisation while reducing the complexity of product. The objective of the project is to identify a specific component in the platform architecture for developing customized families of products and sustainable components to be fabricated using additive manufacturing technologies. Methods such as the single component complexity index (SCCI), System Dynamics Model and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) will be used for evaluation purposes. A case study of hairdryer has been done to analyse the SCCI and AHP through the dissection of the product and its system dynamics model. Both the engineering manufacture methods and commercial application will be discussed to ensure customisation of products and its sustainability. |
