Description
Summary:The objective of this project is to build a network of devices (also known as “Things” in this context) which utilise the mesh networking topology to simulate a typical IoT local network. The XBee S2C wireless transceiver will be tested for the suitability of battery powered IoT devices. Current consumption characteristics of the system will also be measured and analysed using a microcontroller development board with built in current measuring capabilities along with different transmit power settings. Firstly, background knowledge of the choice of microcontroller and the wireless transceiver used in this project will be given. Next, the construction of and explanation of the software in the system and procedures of the current measurements are presented. Finally, the conclusion, discussion of the project and recommendations for future work are stated. From the experiment results, it is concluded that the XBee S2C wireless transceiver is not suitable for coin battery powered applications due to its high peak current draw.
