Summary: | This report explores how Virtual Reality (VR) can be made more appealing to a larger
percentage of the population, thereby helping VR technology to reach its goal of
becoming truly mainstream. Hence, my team and I have decided to create a few scenarios
in VR, where VR users can visualize data in 3D, in the hope that the use of VR can be
greatly expanded. HTC Vive is the VR hardware that the team used for this 3D data
visualization project, together with Unity3d game development engine and Azure Cloud
technology. My role in the team is developing the backend cloud, which is managing
databases in it, as well as creating 3D objects for the HTC Vive via Unity3d game
engine.
My team also presented this project during the local semifinals of Microsoft Imagine Cup
2017 competition. Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world‟s premier student technology
competition, bringing together young technologists around the world to help resolve
some of the world‟s challenges using technology. Imagine Cup has been held annually
since Year 2003 and is sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corporation. |
