This paper aims to explore the content production and consumption of images among young Singaporean women on Instagram. 16 semi-structured interviews were conducted to examine Instagram account management practices, participation in digital alteration and perception of influencers. Respondents adopt strategies to manage online and offline selves, engage in differing levels of digital alteration and follow influencers based on perceptions of authenticity. Using Goffman’s concept of self-presentation, findings show that respondents curate edited images on Instagram feeds and tend not to leave digital footprints of their engagement with influencers to portray their ideal self. With the blurring boundaries between online and offline selves and the pervasive use of Instagram, it is important to delve into users’ content curation practices.
