现代性是全球关注的重要议题，自发展以来就在世界各地产生着巨大影响。新加坡深受西方思想与文化的熏染，因此在独立后也开始追求现代性，很快使这座海岛小国进化为经济繁荣的全球都市。但现代性在带来物质富裕的同时，却也导致当地传统文化逐渐褪色以及人性的异化。成长于60、70年代的新华作家谢裕民，见证了国家的迅速发展以及日益变化的周围环境，并将都市生态写于其文学作品之中。本文以谢裕民的文学作品为主要研究对象，从不同角度细读文本，探讨谢裕民对现代性的反思。 Modernity is an important global issue that has been affecting countries all over the world significantly since its development. As Singapore is deeply influenced by western thoughts and culture, the country began moving into modernity right after gaining independence and has successfully transformed from a small island into a global financial hub. However, while bringing people material abundance, the modernization movement in Singapore also led to the decline of traditional cultures and human alienation. Growing up in the sixties and seventies, Chinese Singaporean writer Chia Joo Ming witnessed the rapid growth of the country and its ever-changing surroundings, which he then reflected in his literary writings. This thesis attempts to analyze Chia’s literary works, with regards to the theme of urban modernity, investing his thoughts on the consequences of urban modernity.
