Gender discourse on the English translation of Daughter of the River
The feminist-styled writing refle...

Therefore, when it discusses feminist works, it naturally touches on the question of rights. The dissertation chooses Hong Ying’s most renowned fiction Daughter of the River, as well as the English version by Howard Goldblatt to study it. In this way, it appropriately compares Howard Goldblatt’s translations against Mainland China’s female scholar, Mu Lei’s translations. Additionally, this article uses a gender-based perspective to examine the translation of contemporary feminist novels, as well as the contrast between different gender-based writing. It explores the relationship between translation and gender discourse, and how the text translation by translators of different genders differ. This paper thinks that the translator’s omission in the translation process, compensation, or alternative methods can reflect the translator’s ideology to a certain extent. Overall, Daughter of the River’s English translation is relatively complete; however, if from a feminist perspective, it weakens the original direction of feminist awareness.
