Summary:In this report, a simple approach for fall detection of a human subject in an indoor environment with the aid of a wireless sensor network (WSN) is proposed. In the proposed methodology, a layer of sensor nodes was deployed in the controlled environment. Human presence and fall detection are executed through close monitoring of the received signal strength indicators (RSSI) fluctuations between the various sensor nodes that form the layer. The prevailing industry markets tracking and fall detection technologies that rely on attachable devices or camera systems. While these established methodologies have big advantages, these systems are either requisite or cease to operate as desired when certain devices are not localised or argued to be teetering on the boundary of exploiting human privacy. This report studies and examines a flexible and dependable approach for tracking and fall detection where the subject need not commit to the attachment of any external device whilst maintaining privacy-protection of the monitored environment.
