Description
Summary:Precast concrete has been replacing cast-in-situ concrete as the method of construction due increased productivity and quality. However, the efficiency of the precast concrete supply chain is hindered by the lack of proper process control. This paper explores the use of RFID technology combined with a data management and analysis framework to enhance the management of supply chain. Based on prior case studies, literature review and industrial research, a framework of implementing a RFID based information management system is proposed. A case study is then performed on a local (Singapore) precast concrete manufactuer to propose a specific methodology of implementation. A subsequent analysis justified the financial feasibility of a RFID system. A discussion on how to facilitate greater rates of RFID technology adoption within the construction industry is also provided.
