Partial compressive behaviour of concrete-filled stainless steel tubes stub columns

This report aims to investigate the structural performance of self-compacting concrete-filled stainless steel tube under partial compression. 8 partial compressive concrete-filled stainless steel tubes specimens and 1 entire compressive reference concrete-filled stainless steel tubes specimens were...

The experimental results indicated that the partial compressive area ratio was the main reason affecting the failure modes and bearing strengths of concrete-filled stainless steel tubes columns, which would clearly deteriorate the resistance of concrete-filled stainless steel tubes column as the partial compressive area ratio increased. When the confinement factor of the concrete-filled stainless steel tubes column reduces, the relative capacity index of the partial compressive concrete-filled stainless steel tubes column slightly decreases. The partial compressive shape was found to have negligible effect on the resistances of concrete-filled stainless steel tubes columns under the same partial compressive area ratios. Given that there have been no established design standards for partial compressive concrete-filled stainless steel tubes member, the corresponding design rules for concrete filled carbon steel tube members, as set out in the European code and American Specification and Australia/New Zealand standard, were evaluated for partial compressive concrete-filled stainless steel tubes stub columns, revealing unsafe and inaccurate partial compression resistance predictions.
