Summary: | This research reviews the translation approaches, mainly domestication and foreignisation, in the translation of the memoir Alias Chin Peng: My Side of History. The main focus of the paper lies with 1) the extent of foreignization and domestication approaches used in the translation of the two versions of the publication and 2) effectiveness in the translations of the words by Chin Peng, in terms of faithfulness, with regards to preserving the original ideas, in both political and sentimental aspects, of the writer. The purpose of the research lies with the exploration of the feasibility of both approaches in translation, as well as the analysis of the effectiveness of both strategies which also leads to the discovery of strengths and pitfalls of the two ways when translating a memoir. |
