Summary: | The formation of spattered powder during laser scanning in the SLM Solutions 280 HL build chamber was investigated by varying the inert gas flow velocity and unidirectional scan vectors, both against and with the gas flow. The accumulated spattered powder on the left side of the build chamber base was quantified and analyzed. It was found that scanning against the gas flow leads to a higher accumulation on the left side. The spattered powder is also considerably larger in size as compared to the starting powder, with the presence of oxide detected from the SEM tests. |
