Identifying new process parameters for preparing poly-caprolactone powder with a solution spraying technique

Poly-caprolactone (PCL) is a biodegradable polymer that has been widely used for fabricating temporary tissue scaffolds. PCL has been considered for an alternative part material of selective vacuum manufacturing (SVM), an inexpensive additive manufacturing technique, to fabricate PCL scaffolds. In a...

PCL has been considered for an alternative part material of selective vacuum manufacturing (SVM), an inexpensive additive manufacturing technique, to fabricate PCL scaffolds. In attempt for PCL to be used in SVM, it must be transformed from pellet-like into loose powder. A simple solution spraying technique successfully used for preparing poly-lactic acid (PLA) powder, was applied for PCL. Initial investigations suggested revisiting its process parameters. Presented in this paper is an attempt to identify the suitable process parameters for PCL powder preparation.
