Summary: | The Web technology will move the whole economy to be information-based because of the greater efficiency it can help achieve. The rate of technology change is so rapid that emerging electronic commerce is already making fundamental changes in the economic landscape, affecting every aspect of how business is and will be conducted. The Web has made the need for decision support ever more ubiquitous because of the vast amount of business information made available by the global Web, which helps bring together the information passed between businesses, between a business and its customers, and among different departments of a business. We, who are entering a new era of enterprise computing and research in the decision support systems field, must consider this ubiquitous network business model. This paper lays out the dimensions of electronic commerce and develops a framework for identifying the important research issues associated with electronic commerce. The emphasis is on taking an interdisciplinary view that integrates technology and business modeling. |
