To date, little research has empirically examined the relationship between enterprise social media use and knowledge workers’ performance. Using social capital theory and the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions as our theoretical framework, we investigate the relationship between enterprise social media use and knowledge workers’ performance. We tested our research model by collecting data from employees working for a large information technology firm in the Midwestern United States and analyzing the data using a structural equation modeling approach. The results suggest that enterprise social media use can increase workplace integration, which further enhances performance directly and indirectly through positive emotions. Enterprise social media use also has a direct relationship with performance. The paper concludes with practical and theoretical implications. 2017-12-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/sis_research/9684 info:doi/10.17705/1thci.00098 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/sis_research/article/10684/viewcontent/Enterprise_Social_Media_Use.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Social media Enterprise social media Knowledge sharing Job performance Workplace isolation Workplace integration Positive emotions Innovative performance Social capital theory Databases and Information Systems Organizational Behavior and Theory |
