Homogeneity of β0-Thalassemia codon 17 (A →T) alleles in Northern Thailand using a direct DNA sequencing method

The aim of this study was to characterize β-globin gene micro-haplotype polymorphisms (frameworks) associated with a β-thalassemia mutations common in Northern Thailand using a direct DNA sequencing method. A total of 11 β-thalassemia major patients homozygous for the codon 17 (A →T) mutation admitt...

The aim of this study was to characterize β-globin gene micro-haplotype polymorphisms (frameworks) associated with a β-thalassemia mutations common in Northern Thailand using a direct DNA sequencing method. A total of 11 β-thalassemia major patients homozygous for the codon 17 (A →T) mutation admitted to Chiang Mai University Hospital were examined. All 22 alleles were found to contain the Asian framework 3 A. The homogeneity of the framework associated with the codon 17 (A →T) mutation indicates a relatively recent origin of the codon 17 (A →T) mutation. Similar studies in other East Asian populations may provide information concerning the origin and the migrational spread of this β-thalassemia mutation. 2014-08-30T02:35:30Z 2014-08-30T02:35:30Z 2004 Article 01252208 15471290 JMTHB http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-4544290183&partnerID=40&md5=7bead9a7f757c59403673281b18a6697 http://cmuir.cmu.ac.th/handle/6653943832/3953 English
