Summary: | Play is an integral part of every child’s development. Through play, children learn social skills such as sharing, cooperating and taking turns. Social language is also learned, self-esteem is built, and friendship is formed during recreational activities with peers. Play promotes personality development, enhances emotional and cognitive growth. Furthermore, play helps children develop gross and fine motor skills which all could be beneficial to many young children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
The objectives of this study were to (1) investigate the effects of play on individual autistic student (2) compare the student’s mathematics skills before and after participating in learning using play activities. In 2013, the case study, a preschooler with ASD, was a 6 year old boy who was in the second semester at Baan Laopao School. The research instruments included 10 teaching lessons with play activities and mathematic tests for counting numbers
1 to 10. The data were analyzed using numbers and presented in tables with descriptive explanation.
The findings of this research were that the case study’s mathematics skills was increased at very good level after being taught through play activities. |
