A simplified gel electrophoretic system and its validity for molecular weight determinations of protein-cetyltrimethylammonium complexes

Proteins ranging in molecular weight from 90,000 to 15,000 daltons were studied by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at pH 4.6. The results showed a linear relationship between log molecular weight and relative electrophoretic mobility. The s...

Description
Summary:Proteins ranging in molecular weight from 90,000 to 15,000 daltons were studied by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at pH 4.6. The results showed a linear relationship between log molecular weight and relative electrophoretic mobility. The simplicity and reliability of the method offer an alternative means of determination of molecular weights of a wide variety of proteins by gel electrophoresis. © 1977.
