There was no direct inhibitory effect of the antibiotic on the enzyme activity. The activity of glutamate dehydrogenase, which is cytoplasmic in the parasite, was unaffected by tetracycline over the same period. Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase activity was substantially recovered when electron acceptors were added.
