Aqueous Extracts of Thai Medicinal Plants Possess anti-HIV-1 Activity

© 2020, © 2020 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Aqueous extracts of selected Thai medicinal plants were assessed for anti-HIV-1 activities in syncytium reduction assay using ∆tat/revMC99/1A2 system and reverse transcription (RT) inhibition assay. Results showed that all the plant extracts inhibite...

Aqueous extracts of selected Thai medicinal plants were assessed for anti-HIV-1 activities in syncytium reduction assay using ∆tat/revMC99/1A2 system and reverse transcription (RT) inhibition assay. Results showed that all the plant extracts inhibited viral syncytium formation with the effective concentrations at 50% (EC50) ranging from 33.9 to 112 µg mL−1. The EC50 values indicated that the extracts were not toxic to 1A2 cells. The selectivity index (SI) ranged from 2.0 to > 6.6. The antiviral activity found in each plant was not due to the inhibition of viral reverse transcriptase enzyme. 2020-05-05T05:51:02Z 2020-05-05T05:51:02Z 2020-01-01 Article Journal of Herbs, Spices and Medicinal Plants.
