Summary:Due to lack of physics class hours at high schools, teachers and students often think that time provided is not enough to learn physics comprehensively. Teachers and students tend to focus on the way of solving quantitative problems, so that the students can pass the national final exam from the government. Ignorance of basic physics concepts could be a start of misunderstanding on more advanced concepts. Misconceptions on basic physics concepts could also contribute on errors in solving quantitative problems. Hence, students' misconceptions should be detected and overcome as soon as possible. To detect students' misunderstanding on physics concepts, an instrument containing conceptual questions which can be used to test students' misconceptions on mechanics has been designed. With this instrument, senior high school students' misconceptions on mechanics have been tested. As a result, many students still have misconceptions on mechanics. To overcome students' misconceptions on mechanics, a conceptual physics module for teachers has been compiled. This physics module containing basic mechanics concepts focuses on material which is often misunderstood by students. The module has been written for teachers in order to enhance their students' understanding on mechanics qualitatively. Some conceptual questions have been added to test students' understanding on related topics.
