Coal mining activity at PT Bukit Makmur jobsite Sebuku is designed based on open pit mining system. PT. XYZ as the site owner set a fuel ratio target between fuel consumption of the vehicle that used in the waste mining process from pit (loading area) to disposal area at 0,83 L/bcm annually. But the...

PT. XYZ as the site owner set a fuel ratio target between fuel consumption of the vehicle that used in the waste mining process from pit (loading area) to disposal area at 0,83 L/bcm annually. But the actual ratio in May and June 2008 occurs at 0,91 and 1,00 L/bcm simultaneously. This research will focus on the design of the waste haul road that affect the fuel consumption and decide which vehicle is more efficient in fuel consumption.
From the field observation, I have the conclusion that the increase of road grade will increase the fuel rate of the vehicle that pass accross that road. This because the vehicle's machine have a limited Rimpull available to overcome grade resistance. To yield a heavy Rimpull, machine have to work in low gear with high RPM. This process will increase fuel consumption of the vehicle.
From the calculation, the HIGH fuel rate classification from Komatsu that relates with grade resistance at 190 lbs/ton (9,5% grade) on HD465, and 170 lbs/ton (8,5% grade) on HD785. The Specific Fuel Consumption of HD785 generally lower than HD465. It means that HD785 is more efficient as a waste haul truck. text
