Summary: | The aqueous and ethanol extract of avocado leaves have hypoglicemic activity, but their chemical constituents have not been published yet. The goal of the research was to investigate the chemical constituent of avocado leaves. The phytochemical screening showed the presence of flavonoid, condesed tannin, quinone, saponin, and steroid/triterpenoid compounds. Crude drug of avocado leaves was extracted with Soxhlet apparatus, by using organic solvent : n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by vaccum liquid chromatography, using silica gel 60 H as stationary phase and 21 compositions of eluents. Purification was conducted by preparative thin layer chromatography. The compound was characterized by specific spray reagent, ultraviolet-visible and infrared spectrophotometries. The isolated compound is still a mixture of seven triterpenoid compounds, having -OH, -CH aliphatic, and C=C groups but without conjugated double bond. |
