The goal of the research was to investigate the chemical constituent of avocado leaves. The phytochemical screening showed the presence of flavonoid, condesed tannin, quinone, saponin, and steroid/triterpenoid compounds. Crude drug of avocado leaves was extracted with Soxhlet apparatus, by using organic solvent : n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by vaccum liquid chromatography, using silica gel 60 H as stationary phase and 21 compositions of eluents. Purification was conducted by preparative thin layer chromatography. The compound was characterized by specific spray reagent, ultraviolet-visible and infrared spectrophotometries. The isolated compound is still a mixture of seven triterpenoid compounds, having -OH, -CH aliphatic, and C=C groups but without conjugated double bond. text |
