Description
Summary:The electricity demand in North Sumatra is estimated to increase by about 10% every year. However, there is a gap between the power output capability of 2012 at 1.549 MW against the projected peak demand in 2030 of 3.493 MW. The prolonged shortage of electricity in North Sumatra has reached 200 MW, making it a national issue.

In accordance with the condition of electricity, is solved through one of the PLTM effort built in Simalungun District, North Sumatra. The plant is located on the Karai river which has a 278.85 km2 watershed area. The dependable discharge to be used is 12 m3/s with 60% reliability, and is a Run Off River (ROR) type.

The results of this MHP planning resulted in a potential power of 7.046 MW with an annual energy production potential of 38.45 GWh. The cost of this PLTM is approximately 140 billion rupiah with income 30 billion rupiah per year.
