But, the different between e-learning style and face to face style of learning that usually used makes a presumption about an increase of user’s mental workload who are not ready to use e-learning. Mental workload is the difference between cognitive capablity from a person and demand that needed to do a job. Because of that, there is a need to evaluate the readiness of e-learning users. ITB as a university in Indonesia use e-learning with help from Learning Management System (LMS) Software. According to preliminary study, the user interface from LMS ITB still confused the user.

The purpose of this study is to compare face to face learning and e-learning in ITB to see which one is better with mental workload perspective, assess the e-learning readiness from ITB student, find a relationship between e-learning readiness level toward mental workload from the student, evaluate LMS ITB’s website. This research use NASA TLX to measure the user’s mental workload and use e-learning readiness questionnaire to measure e-learning readiness level from users. Besides that, to evaluate LMS ITB’s user interface using thinking aloud method and SUS questionnaire.

There are some conlusions from this research. First, face to face method produce lower mental workload compare to e-learning. Second, ITB student have a high technical readiness to use e-learning, but lack of ability to learn independently. Third, there is no relationship between e-learning’s mental workload and user readiness. Forth, the usability level from LMS ITB has not met the standard yet. text
