Summary: | Determination of ripe fruit is generally based on the color and whether the fruit flesh is soft or not. However, this method is subjective and a more objective method is needed. One of them is determining fruit maturity based on the gas it releases, that is ethylene. Development of an ethylene gas detector system has been widely used. However, the use of these tools is still in laboratory scale. Therefore, the purpose of this final project is to make a portable gas detection system based on infrared so that it can be used extensively. The principle used is the principle of frequency absorption in molecules. When the frequency from source is equal to the vibration frequency of the molecule, the frequency will be absorbed. Consequently there is energy lost. This lost energy is converted into other energy, one of which is heat energy. This heat will be detected by the sensor. In this final project, we use Far-Infrared Source and sensor Thermopile because this component is suitable for ethylene gas which has the largest absorption at wavelength 10-11 µm. Next, parameters to be measured are optimum fan voltage parameters and reference voltage of mature fruit. The result obtained is the fan optimum voltage of V and the mature reference voltage of V. The result obtained is the fan voltage is does not to affecting the signal obtained. Then, reference voltage for each fruit maturity level, which is half-baked = 2.05 V < Vout < 2.09 V and mature = Vout > 2.09 V. |
