Summary: | Food is the essential need for human as stated in constitutional law of our country, The 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. When the need of food failure to fulfill there will be many disaster occurs such as famine, disease, or social conflict. One of the most substantial food we must pay attention is fresh beef come from cattle. Based on Rencana Aksi Nasional Pangan dan Gizi Indonesia (Indonesian Food and Nutrient Action Plan), fresh beef is one of the most important food and the most significant source for iron that help increase smartness and physical health. With the role as capital city and center of economic activity, DKI Jakarta hold position as one of the biggest consumer for beef commodities. But the implementation of food system for beef commodities is not as good as what government already set in the first place. Many threatening problem arise such as: high price above purchasing power, unhealthy beef at the market, and beef industries’ water contamination. As a small step to establish sustainable food system, it is necessary to evaluate sustainable food system for beef commodities in DKI Jakarta. The approach of this qualitative research is pseudo-evaluation. The data which have been used are secondary data and observation data which was taken in study area.
The result shows DKI Jakarta’s food system sustainability is classified as less good. The food system consist of production, processing, and consumption has their own criteria of sustainability. Sustainability of production subsystem only met one of four sustainability criteria, sustainablity of processing subsystem only met two of seven sustainability criteria, and sustainability of distribution subsystem only met two of six sustainability criteria. In every subsystem, there are some elements which make food system is not sustainable. Some of the reasons: government can not fulfill the need of beef commodities; food system is not local based; also production and processing of beef quality is not guaranteed. |
