Summary: | Coffee is one of the most popular beverage in the world, including Indonesia. There are 4.7 million 60-
kg-bags coffee consumed in Indonesia in 2017-2018. Coffee is used for its stimulating effect, improving
concentration, improving mood, and avoiding sleep. Daily intake of caffeine in coffee is recommended
not more than 400 mg/day. Decaffeinated coffee is coffee that only contains a little amount of caffeine
after decaffeination process. This study aims to determine the effect of consuming caffeinated coffee
robusta at concentration 7.5%, 15%, 30%, and decaffeinated coffee robusta at concentration 7.5%,
15%, 30% on physical activity, spatial memory and index of organs in mice. Increased physical activity
was determined by rotarod apparatus and spatial memory was determined by the Morris Water Maze,
while the organ index was calculated by comparing the weight of the heart, stomach, spleen, liver and
kidneys to the body weight of mice. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA, the results of the study
showed that caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee significantly increased physical activity (p<0.05).
Increased physical activity by decaffeinated coffee at concentration 7.5% ( 50,5 ± 2,65 s ) and 15%
(106,75 ± 6,13 s) was lower and significantly different than caffeinated coffee group at the same
concentration. The administration of 7.5% caffeinated coffee affected spatial memory (20,68 ± 3,13 s)
that significantly different to negative control (p<0,05). Caffeinated coffee at concentration 30% and
decaffeinated coffee at concentration 15% for 28 days administration significantly (p<0,05) increased
the index of heart in mice compared to negative control (0,62% and 0,63%).
