One of the simple recommended methods was read aloud. Teachers told a story using a book in an intonated voice and should understand the story. A strategy was then demanded to make the read aloud activity more interesting for children. However, the evidence revealed that most teachers, especially in Makassar, told a story in a monotonous way. The activity was teacher-centered, so the students lacked involvement. It certainly impacted the children’s interest in the story delivered. Solving the issue, we aimed to design media in the form of a storybook using augmented reality technology. The media supported the read aloud activity in class. We used the design-thinking method through these stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The research product was a storybook “Putri Tandampalik and Kerbau Buleng”. It was the main media using the augmented reality application. In addition to draw children’s interest in listening to the story, the storybook engaged them with games and enabled them to interact with several 3D objects appearing. Also, the book contained moral messages or values. The use of augmented reality technology potentially supported read aloud activity. It made the activity more interactive, making the learning activity more fun. text |
