THE VISUAL ANALYSIS OF INFOGRAPHIC IN KEMDIKBUD.RI INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

In order to socialize government policies, the use of social media is very important. The results of the Research and Development of Human Resources of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) stated that the most popular social media is the instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Furthermore, the study states that the maximum duration of social media users looking at content is only thirty seconds. Based on this research, the government decided to create social media content with a visual format, one of which is infographics. Infographics are data visualizations designed in such a way as to communicate messages in a concise and interesting way. The infographic content has been published through official instagram accounts of each ministry in Indonesia. Among the ministerial instagram accounts in Indonesia, the kemdikbud.ri instagram account is the most followers with one million more followers. Even so, the government stated that there were still doubts about the performance of these infographics. To answer the government's doubts about the performance of these infographics, this study was conducted to find out how the quality of ministry infographics is on the instagram account. The Ministry of Education and Culture's instagram account (kemdikbud.ri) was chosen as the object of research because it is the official instagram account of the ministry with the most followers. The research questions in this study are divided into three points, namely: (1) What is the quality of the Kemdikbud’s infographics on the kemdikbud.ri instagram account? (2) What is the relation between the caption and infographics on the kemdikbud.ri instagram account? and (3) What is the visual character of the kemdikbud.ri instagram account? The objects of this study are ten infographics from the kemdikbud.ri instagram account, which have more than a thousand likes, consist of one page, have different themes, and are published in the range of 2017 to 2019. This research uses a content analysis method with a descriptive qualitative approach. There are several theories used in this study. The theories will be processed into infographic quality parameters in instagram divided into four dimensions, namely the visual dimension, the content dimension, the knowledge dimension, and the caption dimension. The research resulted in three findings. First, out of the ten infographics that were the object of research, four infographics have met the parameters of good infographic quality in the dimensions of visual, content, knowledge and caption. Second, in the aspect of caption and infographic relations, the caption text on Kemdikbud’s infographics is used to add information to infographics and to interact with readers. Some infographics have minimal text, so the information displayed is lacking. Such infographics rely on caption to add to this lack of information. For other infographics that already have sufficiently complete information, a caption is needed as a means of interacting with the reader, with the aim of inviting the reader to read to the infographic. Third, based on the stage of research that has been done before, it appears that Kemdikbud’s infographic has a decorative visual character. The illustration elements are used only as decoration, so that information can still be conveyed properly without any illustrations. In addition, the texts in the Kemdikbud’s infographics have informative characters. Standard and formal language style and detailed information disclosure are carried out with the main objective so that the public can truly understands the information conveyed in the infographic.
