Summary: | Batukaras is one of the best surfing destinations for longboard in the World. This
surfing destination known in the national and international surfing world has brought
surfer from all around the world. As a tourist destination developed in the local
community area, surfing tourism activities in Batukaras should help to develop and
empower the local community to be involved in tourism in Batukaras. Tourism demand
and supply are both a crucial aspect. This study has purpose to examine surfer
characteristics as a tourist, perceptions and the level of community participation in
tourism in Batukaras. In this study researcher use primary and secondary data.
Primary data were collected by interview, observation and questionnaire. Respondents
in this study is purposive in nature by choosing the respondents through snowball
method. Whereas for the sample on the questionnaire taken about 96 respondents from
the surfer tourist segment. The research variables used in the questionnaire are the
characteristics of tourists as seen from the profile, motivation and travel patterns of
tourists. While on the tourist perception, the supporting variables are environmental
values, socio-cultural values, economic values, tourist satisfaction on tourism
products, and behavioral intentions. As for community research, the variable discussed
is the aspect of society which is seen from the ladder of citizenship and a sign of
empowerment in terms of economic, social and political. From this study then found
that the Batukaras surfing tourism market was suitable for the development of
community-based tourism that the opposite of masstourism. However, the role of local
communities needs to be increased in realizing the sustainable community-based
surfing tourism in Batukaras. |
