Consequently, should there be any damages or failures in the components of the turbines, those components will be replaced by the new ones from Japan. Therefore, PT PLN (Persero) is attempting to produce the turbine components themselves as an effort to reduce the new component replacement expense, starting from the guide vane whose durability lasts briefly, ranging from five to six years. This final project was carried out by performing a systematic and documented reverse engineering of Francis turbine’s guide vane, a property of PLTA Bakaru, with an aim of contributing towards PT PLN (Persero) in exercising future reverse engineering. The replication engineering in this final project was limited to geometric modelling, with a method of measurement using a 3D scanner. The scan result was thenceforth processed with Geomagic Design X software, whereas the finishing was accomplished using Solidworks software This final project results in a final form of a 3D guide vane solid model and its technical drawing along with the tolerances. In addition, this project also sought for a standard airfoil profile that is similar to the research object’s guide vane airfoil profile that will be essential in conducting future reverse engineering process, which are functional, reliability, and manufacture analyses. text |

description |
PLTA (Hydroelectric Power Plant) Bakaru is an electric power plant which utilizes
Francis turbines in order to supply the average annual electricity demand of 1030 GWH
within the area of South and West Sulawesi. These particular Francis turbines used are the
products of Toshiba, a Japanese corporation. Consequently, should there be any damages or
failures in the components of the turbines, those components will be replaced by the new
ones from Japan. Therefore, PT PLN (Persero) is attempting to produce the turbine
components themselves as an effort to reduce the new component replacement expense,
starting from the guide vane whose durability lasts briefly, ranging from five to six years.
This final project was carried out by performing a systematic and documented reverse
engineering of Francis turbine’s guide vane, a property of PLTA Bakaru, with an aim of
contributing towards PT PLN (Persero) in exercising future reverse engineering. The
replication engineering in this final project was limited to geometric modelling, with a
method of measurement using a 3D scanner. The scan result was thenceforth processed with
Geomagic Design X software, whereas the finishing was accomplished using Solidworks
software
This final project results in a final form of a 3D guide vane solid model and its technical
drawing along with the tolerances. In addition, this project also sought for a standard airfoil
profile that is similar to the research object’s guide vane airfoil profile that will be essential
in conducting future reverse engineering process, which are functional, reliability, and
manufacture analyses. |
