Description
Summary:Octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC) is an ester formed from methoxycinnamic acid and 2-ethylhexanol, that is used as UV filter in sunscreens and other skin care products by absorbs the UV light. OMC is an organic UV filter that absorbs UV-B (320-400 nm) light from sun. In general, the use of OMC in commercial products of skin care is combined with other uv filters. According to the Food and Drug Administration (2017), the maximum concentration that allows in a product is 7.5 percent. Therefore, the aims of this research aims were to inventorize a new method of determining the concentration of OMC in sample. In this research, literature have been searched using keywords (“VALIDATION METHOD” AND (“OCTINOXATE” OR “OCTYL METHOXYCINNAMATE”) AND “HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY”). From the selected literature, this research used High Performance liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method with C18 column, methanol and water for injections (WFI) as a mobile phase, and PDA detector at a wavelength of 310 nm.
