Due to its flavonoid content which might be responsible for its pharmacological activities, this research is aimed at isolating and identifying one of the flavonoids from the calyx. The powder of crude material was continuously extracted by Soxhlet apparatus using n hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by vacuum liquid chromatography and column chromatography, followed by isolation using preparative paper chromatography. The isolate was characterized by spraying with 5 percent of aluminium chloride on the thin layer plate and paper chromatogram, and by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. The phytochemical screening showed a presence of flavonoid, gallotannin, dan steroid/triterpenoid compounds. A flavonoid compound had been isolated from the ethyl acetate extract by preparative paper chromatography. The isolate was assumed to be a flavonoid glycoside which belongs to flavon group with hydroxyl groups at position 5, 7, and 4. text
