Summary: | WK Rokan is the most productive oil block in the history of Indonesia’s oil and gas, has more than 12
thousand active oil wells scattered in more than 100 active fields operating and contributes around
23.5% of national oil production. One of the active fields in WK Rokan is the Petko field which has
around 400 production wells with a production of nearly 17,000 Barrels Oil Per Day (BOPD).
Production wells with high reliability without operational disruption are the company's target to obtain
optimal production. One of the crucial problems related to the reliability of production wells in the
Petko field is the presence of associated gas or back pressure in the annulus casing of the production
wells which causes a gas lock to occur in Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). Production wells become
shutting down and then impact losses of oil production called Loss Production Opportunity (LPO).
Production wells with high associated gas or back pressure are called gassy wells.
The purpose of this final project is to conduct a comprehensive analysis to mitigate the problem of gassy
wells in the Petko field so that appropriate recommendations and solutions are resulted from several
identified alternatives to obtain optimal and reliable production well operations and also prevent
incidents that have an impact on safety of the worker and surrounding community even environmental
issues in the operation area.
Gassy well problems were assessed using the Kepner Tregoe Situation Assessment (KT). Then find the
root of the problem using the Kepner Tregoe (KT) Problem Analysis and verified with the 5-Whys
method. The eight stages of the Simple Multi Attribute Rating Technique (SMART) method were
carried out to identify decision makers, alternatives and attributes and then attribute weighting to each
alternative that had been developed so that a provisional decision was obtained and accompanied by a
sensitivity analysis on all alternatives. The analysis and application of the Kepner Tregoe (KT) and
SMART methods are carried out with a Group Discussion Forum consisting of various disciplines and
experts in their fields (Subject Matter Expert/SME).
Based on the results of the SMART Decision Analysis from available alternatives and project criteria,
the best alternative to be proposed as a project to the leadership (DE & DRB) is the installation of a
peculator at the annulus casing of the production well in the Petko field.
