Description
Summary:PT. Garuda Metalindo is a producer of fasteners and engineering components, committed to delivering 100% defect-free products. However, recent customer complaints have highlighted discrepancies between product standards and received goods. The Quality Control Department (QC) at Plant 3 (GM 3) bears responsibility for ensuring product quality. Analysis revealed inefficiencies in the core QC processes of incoming inspection, labeling, and sorting, characterized by sample pile-ups and idle operators. These deviations from standardized procedures resulted in defective products reaching customers. In this study, a non-added value analysis was conducted on the quality control process using motion study and activity mapping. Non-added value activities were then eliminated by designing workstations and layouts with ABS method in the company’s warehouse. The elimination of waste can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the company. With these improvements, the quality control work activities become more effective and efficient. In the proposed solution, it was found that 25% of motion waste and 10% of transportation waste were eliminated. This resulted in a 16% reduction in total work time. The total operational costs in GM 3 also decreased by 19%, or by 7 million rupiah per month. Thus, the elimination of waste improved work effectiveness and efficiency, which can impact the alignment with work standards.
