INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/85706 The advancement of information and communication technology has significantly transformed various aspects of human life, including the financial sector. Cryptocurrency, which began with Bitcoin in 2008, has emerged as a new player in global finance. In Indonesia, interest in cryptocurrency is increasing due to the potential for investment returns and advancements in blockchain technology. However, challenges such as government regulations, low financial literacy, and perceived risks continue to hinder its adoption. Although interest in this technology continues to grow, the acceptance of cryptocurrency in Indonesia remains limited by a lack of understanding and education. Many people are still unfamiliar with cryptocurrency, leading to scepticism and low levels of trust. Additionally, the technological infrastructure, especially in rural areas, is still inadequate to support secure cryptocurrency transactions. Concerns about security and the volatility of cryptocurrency values are also significant factors influencing adoption. Therefore, it is a priority to address these barriers by understanding the key factors involved. This study examines the factors influencing the behavioral intention to accept cryptocurrency in Indonesia using the UTAUT model, with a focus on the moderating role of financial literacy. The findings reveal that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, security, awareness, perceived risk, and financial literacy significantly impact the intention to use cryptocurrency. People who believe cryptocurrency enhances their performance, is easy to use, and is endorsed by their social circle are more inclined to accept it. Although risk perceptions are usually a barrier, increased financial literacy and understanding of risks positively influence the intention to adopt cryptocurrency. On the other hand, facilitating conditions, such as device access and technical support, do not significantly impact behavioral intention. Financial literacy also strengthens the links between security perceptions, awareness, and behavioral intention, but not between performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence text |
